Use these measures to ensure their staff members' and customers' safety and peace of mind.
Drawing on the official guidelines and advice set by the World Health Organization (WHO), we have put together some tips to help you maintain service while limiting the risk of spread of the virus.
Hygiene
- Regularly clean every surface with disinfectant. Provide training and to all staff and suppliers, so they are up to date with standard personal preventive measures.
- Review changes in your store to avoid contamination i.e. close water fountains, remove sampling and demo areas, free up space so people can maintain a safe distance, etc. For official advice and the latest guidelines, refer to instructions issued by your health authorities and the WHO.
- Actively encourage employees to stay home if they experience any signs of illness
- Regularly test staff if that is an option
- Look at ways to reduce numbers of concurrent staff and therefore improve social distancing
- Distribute guidance on effective hand washing procedures to your staff and customers such as this one. Stock up on soap and gel in public and staff restrooms, and that the cleaning routines are frequent and extra thorough.
- Set up stations with disinfectant, at the entrance and exit and throughout your store. To avoid the risk of contamination, select contactless dispensers.

- Only load goods into the boot
- Wait until the car has parked and turned off their engine before approaching
- Make sure car windows remain closed
- Staff loading cars to wear masks and gloves
- For age restricted goods, physically verify ID through the closed window in line with Challenge 25
Restaurant and bar
- Provide a clear and easy to follow table numbering system so customers can navigate straight to their table
- Ensure suitable safe distancing between tables and on routes to and from tables
- Plan cleaning gaps between servings where you can clean facilities without customer contact
- Create a safe queue with marked spaces for using restrooms
- Only send notification to collect food to one table at a time – wait until it is clear before adding the next table's food and notifying them
- Put food on trays for easy transportation – don't overload – customers aren't professionals
- For age restricted goods, we suggest putting in a perspex screen to physically verify ID in line with Challenge 25
